Profiles in PERSEVERANCE, HARD WORK , GENEROSITY

They are our beloved customers. They have, like most overseas workers/expats endured so much; starting over in a foreign land and working their way up. Still here they are; emerging stronger, more determined, and deeper in faith for the next battles and dreams ahead.

Meet MARIA, who came to Canada as a Live-in Caregiver and is now an office employee. She is one of our pioneers and a loyal customer since July 1994. She usually only gets loans of $1000-$2000 for bills & emergency needs here and to support mainly the medical needs of her husband’s family back home. From 1994 to date, she has received 134 loans for a total of $138,500.

Meet MERCY, who also arrived under the Caregiver Program in 2006 and became our client that same year. Nag umpisa lang sa $1000, she has received 36 loans totalling $71,500. SHe’s proud to have been able to send her kids to school, sponsor  them to Canada, and slowly but surely have her dream of having a nicer retirement house in her province come true; one room, 1 staircase at a time. She just recently bought a freezer to start her mom’s frozen food business; again, 1 freezer, 1 goal at a time.

Meet TINA, whom we’ve known since June 2006 and so far, with 42 loans amounting to $82,000. Kaakbay has helped her with family emergencies back home, with her transition from caregiver to permanent resident to Personal Support Worker. Like most Filipinos, she is gifted with a generous heart and although she is raising her daughter here, she has also been funding the education for her niece and nephew in the Philippines for years now to give them a brighter future.

ATE MALOU, is one of our most kind hearted customers. From October 1995 to date, she has received 35 loans for a total of $35,000. True to her generous nature, she sends money back home around Christmas time to give free rice/foods packs EVERY family in their small barangay. For years, she has helped sick family members pay for extended medical treatments and daily provisions. Dati napapaiyak na siya pag nasa office  while sharing her stories. But previously  unbeknownst and now to the surprise of her family here, her overtime hours plus Kaakbay loans enabled her to have a house built in the Philippines for her frequent emergency trips & sustain a piggery business for her retirement days. Her selfless generosity is now bringing her manifold blessings.

We salute YOLLY, who arrived under the Caregiver Program in 2012 & became our client in August 2013. She has made full use of her 18 loans worth $30,500. It has been a long journey for her as an OFW, for years painfully far away from her son who had serious health issues needing regular and expensive treatments. She feels blessed that she still was able to sponsor him to Canada and has less worries now because he is well cared for her with her.Last year, she renewed her loan when her sister’s family in the Philippines was hit with Covid-19 and needed financial help. But just this week, she had to get an emergency loan because her sister in Hong Kong, who is in worse, was diagnosed at the time with Stage 3 cancer. Yolly’s sister has to fly home from Hong Kong to their province  without fulfilling her Canadian dreams and without money saved of her cancer battle. We know that Yolly, armed with her faith and blessed with good health will be her sister’s rock.
